DBasia.news – Manchester City have become a giant team in England since the Middle East consortium came to buy the club in 2008. Since then The Citizens have brought in European star players to become the basic foundation of the club’s strength.
From the City project that was built over the years, two club legends in the modern era emerge, they are Vincent Kompany and David Silva. Kompany, 34, who recently decided to retire, has left City in 2019.
The Belgian defender leaves City after 11 years and being captain in four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups. After Kompany left, the captain armband were worn by David Silva and then De Bruyne.
Silva was recruited two years after Manchester City signed Kompany from Hamburg in 2008. The Spanish attacking midfielder was recruited from Valencia and played for 10 years before deciding to leave this summer as his contract expires.
At the age of 34, David Silva decided to return to Spain and strengthen Real Sociedad. Like Kompany Silva also won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cup titles.
In order to respect the legendary status of the two players, the club, as confirmed by the club’s official website, will make statues for both of them in front of the Etihad Stadium.
“David Silva is a transformational player; a calm leader who has acted calmly and deliberately and inspired everyone around him, from the youngest academy player to his senior team-mates over the past 10 years,” said City owner Khaldoon Al Mubarak.
“He has left a mark on the team, at this club, his history and even the Premier League as a whole. In doing so he has been instrumental in the philosophy of the beautiful football you see today. He was the start.”
“Like Vincent before him, the David statue will be a lasting reminder of the beautiful moments he gave us, not only as an extraordinary footballer, but as an inspiring ambassador who represents this football club with high self-esteem at all times.”
Silva also gave his farewell to Manchester City which has a special place in his heart.
“The time has come. 10 years and 13 titles, it is time for me to say goodbye to the club that has left a strong mark on my life and career,” said Silva.
“I hope City will have even greater success in the future. I will support the team from afar. I am so happy to have shared unforgettable moments with the City family – you will always be in my heart. I want to give each Cityzens a big hug.”
