DBasia.news – Good news from Manchester City ahead of the Derby against Manchester United on the 12th-week Premier League on Sunday (11/11). Raheem Sterling is officially renewing his contract with the club.
Reported by Man City’s official website, Sterling signs the new five-year contract until 2023. The Liverpool former player will be paid £300,000 weekly-salary or Rp5 billion, makes him as one of British highest paid players in the Premier League.
“I’m delighted to sign – my development here has been incredible,’ Sterling said. ‘I felt from the minute I got here it was the right choice for me. It’s really paid off for me and I’m really grateful,” Sterling said.
Joining Liverpool worth £49M in 2014, Sterling is already an essential part of Manchester City with one Premier League and League Cup title. His performance is developing under Pep Guardiola.
“This is a significant moment for the club. Raheem has improved dramatically in the past two seasons and is now one of the Premier League’s best-attacking players. His statistics tell their own story,” City Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain said.
“He’s quick, strong and excellent in front of goal – everything a modern-day forward needs to excel.”
Learning from David Silva and Sergio Aguero
Yaya Toure’s leave means there are only Vincent Kompany, David Silva, and Sergio Aguero as Man City senior players remaining. Sterling needs to learn a lot from them, especially the two latter names because they often communicate with them in the attacking line on the pitch.
“It’s a club where you are expected to challenge on all fronts, you know you are expected to win stuff. You enjoy that but at the same time, it is a bit of pressure. Players like David (Silva) and Sergio (Aguero) have done it year in year out, not just for their club but for their countries,” Sterling added.
In his 23, Sterling believes there are many more aspects that he could develop in the future, including the goal and assist.
“There’s definitely a lot more [to come], there’s stuff I’m still working on, there’s never a time where I feel this is where it stops. I always want to get better and get my numbers up, score more goals and get more assists,” Sterling concluded.
