Manchester City targets Romelu Lukaku to replace Sergio Aguero
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Manchester City are looking to find a replacement for Sergio Aguero this summer. Interestingly, The Citizens intend to bring a former Manchester United striker.
The figure in question is Romelu Lukaku. It turns out that Manchester City have been trying to bring the attacker back to England since last summer.
The news was revealed by La Gazzetta dello Sport. Surprisingly, Lukaku’s name was recommended directly by Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola.
“Guardiola made his initial approach to Lukaku over the past summer, after his impressive first season at the San Siro. That interest is believed to be still active,” wrote the top Italian media.
Lukaku has indeed managed to show his best potential as a striker since moving to Inter. His productivity is much higher than when strengthening the Red Devils.
So far, Lukaku has scored 58 goals in 84 matches for Inter. His role is relied on by the Nerazzurri coach, Antonio Conte.
Guardiola seems to see Lukaku as the right substitute for Aguero. As is known, the Argentine striker’s contract will expire next summer.
In character, the two players does have a similarity, namely being strong in possession of the ball. Lukaku is even superior in terms of posture.
Lukaku’s presence can add to the dimension of Guardiola’s Manchester City attack. The Spanish tactician has used petite attackers more often in his coaching career.
Lukaku’s response
Lukaku has yet to issue an official statement regarding Manchester City’s interest. But in a number of interviews, he expressed his happiness playing for Inter.
This could be a sign that Lukaku refuses Guardiola’s offer. Moreover, this transfer could infuriate Manchester United fans.
In addition, moving to Manchester City is also very risky for Lukaku. There is no guarantee that he can appear sharp like when he strengthened Inter.
