Mario Mandzukic will use a sacred jersey number at AC Milan

DBasia.news – AC Milan has completed one major transfer this winter transfer market. Il Rossoneri successfully brought in 34 year old striker, Mario Mandzukic from their rival, Juventus.

Mandzukic is contracted until the end of the season with an option to extend at the end of his contract. His arrival added depth to the Milan squad on the front lines which also contained Rafael Leao, Ante Rebic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“AC Milan is pleased to announce the recruitment of Mario Mandzukic. The club and striker has agreed to an agreement until the end of this season with the option to extend the contract at the end,” wrote AC Milan’s official website.

Mandzukic has won many trophies by winning the Serie A, Bundesliga and Champions League titles with Juventus and Bayern Munich. Besides being sharp in scoring goals, Mandzukic also has a spirit of sacrifice as he does not hesitate to help the team in the defensive phase.

Interestingly, Mandzukic has used the number 9 jersey at AC Milan. As is known, quoted from Football-Italy, the jersey number is a cursed number in Milan as its user after Filippo Inzaghi can be said to be a flop or a failed player.

Inzaghi played for Milan from mid-2001 to 2012 and continued the number 9 title after successful legendary names like George Weah, Patrick Kluivert, Roberto Baggio, Daniele Massaro, Jean-Pierre Papin, Marco van Basten, Gunnar Nordahl etc.

After Inzaghi, the user has had a hard time appearing well in the jersey until the curse with the weight of the top names in Milan was in number 9.

Those who used the number 9 jersey after Inzaghi are Alexandre Pato, Alessandro Matri, Mattia Destro, Fernando Torres, Luiz Adriano, Gianluca Lapadula, Andre Silva, Gonzalo Higuain, and Krzysztof Piatek.

It is interesting to look forward to how Mandzukic will perform in the rest of the 2020-2021 season and the potential to continue into the next season if his contract is extended.
