DBasia.news – Arsenal won 2-0 against Chelsea in the London Derby at Emirates Stadium during the 23rd-week of Premier League, Sunday (20/1). The defeat triggers the anger from the Chelsea manager, Maurizio Sarri.
With upset expression, Sarri entered the conference room and asked for an interpreter to translate his statements in Italy. The message is clear: to make everyone understands his words clearly.
“I have to say that I’m extremely angry because this defeat was down to mentality. They were far more determined than we were and I can’t accept that. It was similar to Spurs – I spoke to the players and I thought it was solved,” Sarri told Goal.
“I want to talk about tactics but it would appear this group of players are very difficult to motivate. I think when you see this type of game where one team is more determined then you can’t talk about tactics. Their level of determination was much better than ours throughout the game.”
Sarri sees Cesar Azpilicueta and friends performance didn’t show any passion to achieve the victory against Arsenal. It’s monotonous, not passionate, and their attack is easy to be tackled.
No longer playing safe due to the adaptation process with the new squad and England football culture, Sarri’s action in criticizing the squad publicly initiated the ‘war’. Sarri is no longer able to hold his anger toward Chelsea’s weak mentality.
England football expert Rio Ferdinand said what Sarri did is a huge gamble. It means, the players could be motivated to revive or even revolt and won’t play well.
“This is a huge, huge gamble from Sarri’s point of view. He’s looking for a response and rightly so – doing it publicly in a presser after a game, it’s questionable,” Ferdinand said cited by Football.London.
“Because these players have been through this with a couple of managers, and the managers get gone,” he continued.
The former player and England football expert Jermaine Jenas also surprised by Sarri’s decision to criticize his squad publicly. He thinks it’s indicated that Sarri is arrogant and prioritizes himself.
“I don’t get it publicly. If he wants to get hold of me, have a scrap and tell me I’m a disgrace and not doing what he wants on the pitch, I’ll accept that and that’s fine, I don’t really get doing it in public,” Jenas added.
“It is a massive gamble. He is protecting himself, that’s one part of it I don’t like. You are saying, you, you, you. Where is the collective team in that? You win together, you lose together. Whatever he is saying, he has to put on his own head as well,” he concluded.
