Memphis Depay Defends Marcelo’s Action Protested by Ultras Lyon

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  Wednesday (11/12/2019), Dutch Olympian Lyon winger Memphis Depay after the match against RB Leipzig in the Champions League, showed his anger at several Lyon ultras due to stretching racial banners for his teammate, Marcelo.

The ultras group allegedly came from Bad Gones as quoted by the Daily Mail, after the match unfurled banners containing racial words for Marcelo. Seeing this, Depay immediately ran towards the ultras stands and tried to lower the banner.

As a result of his actions, Depay was involved in an incident with several Lyon supporters who did not receive the banner taken down. Lyon’s ultras action was triggered by Marcelo’s poor performance with Lyon in Ligue 1.

According to these ultras, Marcelo as a player is no longer professional and violates commitments. But for Depay regardless of the ultras reason, racial banners were still unacceptable.

Regarding the incident of their supporters, the Lyon camp has not provided any clarification. Memphis Depay also has not given information related to the action.

Depay himself has just been appointed captain of Lyon this season by coach Rudi Garcia. According to the former AS Roma coach, Depay showed leadership in Lyon. It was needed by many young players in Lyon.
