DBasia.news – Olympique Lyonnais winger, Memphis Depay believes Lyon has great enthusiasm to be able to beat Juventus from the Champions League this season.
Lyon will face Juventus in the second leg of the top 16 of the Champions League, August 8, 2020, AM. Previously, in the first leg of February 2020, Lyon successfully defeated Juventus by a score of 1-0.
“The match in the first leg made me thrilled and optimistic because I saw the enthusiasm and motivation of the players,” Depay said as quoted by Football Italia.
At the moment Lyon only needs a draw in order to qualify for the quarterfinals. However, Juventus and Lyon have their own advantages in the second leg.
Juventus was benefited more as they have felt the atmosphere of competitive matches before plunging in the Champions League. Noted, Juventus will play 14 matches with details of two in the Coppa Italia and 12 matches in Serie A before facing Lyon.
“Right now the situation is different. Juventus played more games than us. Many things are also different than normal conditions. But on the other hand, I can also appear again in the Champions League, after injury,” explained Depay.
Depay also revealed that one of the rules is the elimination of the two-leg system. When the tournament has entered the quarter-finals and semifinals, all matches will be held once to immediately complete the competition which was delayed due to the corona virus pandemic.
“Now there are new rules, which is one game per round. So anyone can be the favorite. Even though the team is young, we have high spirits. We’ll see how the results will be. What is clear, Juventus are very motivated and not afraid,” continued Depay.
Indirectly, this rule has made all teams that qualify to fight it out, as there is no second chance to fight in the next round. All matches will also be centered in the City of Lisbon, Portugal.
