DBasia.news – Paulo Dybala received the title of best player in Serie A for the 2019-2020 season. The Argentine striker won the title from a star player who is also his teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Serie A operator announced this on Tuesday (4/8) local time. Dybala is considered to have played an important role in bringing Juventus to the ninth consecutive Scudetto.
Throughout this season, Dybala appeared in 33 matches in Serie A. He contributed 11 goals and 11 assists for Juventus.
“The performance measurement is based on the official Serie A statistics, which represent the best objective scientific criteria this season,” said Serie A CEO, Luigi De Siervo.
Dybala’s election as the best player in Serie A this season is quite surprising. Moreover, the former Palermo player had faced a series of problems.
At the start of the season, Juventus intended to sell Dybala to another club. He also had difficulty getting a first place in Maurizio Sarri’s team.
When the competition was suspended due to the pandemic, troubles returned to Dybala. He was infected with the corona virus and took a while to recover.
It was lucky that Dybala recovered on time. The 26-year-old player’s performance also seemed to be undisturbed by the virus that attacks the lungs of its victims.
But Dybala’s best player title also has the opportunity to invite polemic. Statistically, Ronaldo has made a bigger contribution than Dybala, namely 31 goals and six assists in an identical number of matches.
This can lead to jealousy in the relationship between the two players. Moreover, Ronaldo also failed to win the title of top scorer as he was unable to compete with Ciro Immobile.
Dybala himself is not the only Juventus player to have received the award. Wojciech Szczesny was also named the best goalkeeper in Serie A.
