Pep Guardiola Affirms that Man City Will Not Shop for Players in January

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, stated that he did not want to shop for players in the January 2020 transfer market.

“I don’t want any players in January,” Guardiola said as quoted by the BBC.

The heart of defense has been City’s weakness this season. They failed to achieve a replacement for captain, Vincent Kompany, in the summer, lost Aymeric Laporte to injury, and haven’t played Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones together in a single match since September.

City have never kept clean sheets in their last seven matches. Apart from that there were a few surprises for the fans as Guardiola chose to play veteran midfielder, Fernandinho, on the back line this season.

“I like Fernandinho playing in that position. I chose him to be there. That is why he is playing,” he stated.

Although Fernandinho spent his entire career as a midfielder, Guardiola was defensive when asked why the Brazilian played more in the back than Stones and Otamendi, whose combined value of the two players reached 79.5 million pounds.

When asked about the quality of his team’s defense, especially regarding Fernandinho, Guardiola simply answered, “Did you watch those matches?”

Guardiola may not want to sign a player in the winter, but he must start looking at the future as Fernandinho’s contract will expire in the summer.

Aside from Fernandinho, another player in City whose contract will soon expire is David Silva.

Silva has announced that he will leave the club in the summer. But there was no similar announcement from Fernandinho, which indicated that the Brazilian might extend the contract.

“We will determine the situation at the end of the season. We will do what we believe is the best for the club and the organization for next season,” he concluded.
