DBasia.news –  Wednesday (10/30) early morning Western Indonesian Time, Manchester City advanced to the Carabao Cup after a 3-1 win over Southampton. After the match, The Cityzens manager Pep Guardiola apologized to one of his players, Ian Carlo-Poveda.

Pep Guardiola felt the need to apologize for not entering the 19-year-old player. When the match has 20 minutes left, the manager asks Ian-Carlo Poveda and Adrian Bernabe to warm up. However, both were told to return to the bench when Jack Stephens reduced the position to be 3-1 in the 75th minute.

“I apologize to Ian-Carlo because he also wants to play. However, after the position became 3-1, I think the match is not safe. That’s why we don’t make changes. After that, with what happened to Angelino, John Stones entered,” explained Pep Guardiola as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

Different from Poveda, Bernabe got the chance to play in Manchester City vs Southampton. He became a cameo when replacing Gabriel Jesus in the 87th minute. Tommy Doyle is believed to have a greater chance to appear as a starter and play until the final whistle of the match is sounded by the referee.

In the match against Southampton, Pep Guardiola fielded several second-tier players. Besides Doyle, other players who were revealed in the match were Claudio Bravo, Phil Foden, Eric Garcia, and Angelino. Except for Angelino, they played the full 90 minutes in a match that was decorated with two goals from Sergio Aguero.

3-1 victory over Southampton made Manchester City move to the next round and the opportunity to defend the title at the Carabao Cup. In the last two seasons, Pep Guardiola’s team has always been the best team at this event. They won 3-0 over Arsenal in the 2017-18 season finals and won on penalties over Chelsea last season.
