By db-admin
DBasia.news – Pep Guardiola congratulates Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League. The Manchester City manager turns out to be the protégé of Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa.
Leeds ensure promotion after their closest rival, West Bromwich Albion, fell 1-2 when they visited Huddersfield Town headquarters at John Smith Stadium on Friday (7/17/2020). The result left the Baggies stuck in second place in the Championship Division standings with 82 points from 45 matches.
The points achieved by West Brom can no longer pursue Leeds who are firmly ranked first in the standings with 87 points from 44 matches. As a result, The Peacocks certainly won a ticket to the Premier League next season.
The success of Leeds promotion to the Premier League ended their 16 years of waiting to play in England’s highest caste. The last time the club, based in Elland Road, played in the English League in the 2003/2004 season.
After ensuring self promotion, Leeds immediately received a lot of praise from various parties. One who appreciates the success of The Whites is Guardiola.
Guardiola specifically congratulated Bielsa as the manager of Leeds. The Spanish tactician did not hesitate to call the former Argentine national team coach the best.
“The best to reach @premierleague,” Guardiola praised Bielsa via Twitter @PepTeam.
Guardiola is known to have respected Bielsa for many years. The Argentine was one of Guardiola’s mentors, before the City manager took up the position as Barcelona coach in 2008.
“Marcelo Bielsa is the best coach in the world,” Guardiola said in 2018, according to talkSPORT.
