DBasia.news – Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola gave an honest assessment after his team was eliminated from the Champions League by Lyon. City were eliminated in the quarter-finals for the third consecutive season.

Manchester City were eliminated by Olympique Lyon in the 2019-2020 Champions League quarter-final after losing 3-1, at Estadio Jose Alvalade, Sunday (16/8) AM. These results has made The Citizens’ dream of winning the title continue to be buried.

Manchester City’s defeat was marred by controversy. In particular it was Lyon’s second goal which was approved by the referee.

The goal was created after Karl Toko Ekambi was in an offside position letting the ball be taken by Moussa Dembele. However, previously Dembele had also made contact with Aymeric Laporte. The contact made Laporte fall and unable to catch the ball.

However, after using VAR, Lyon’s second goal was still valid. Gabriel Jesus and his colleagues were 2-1 behind.

“I do not want to talk about this incident. It seems that I have complained and looked for reasons,” said Guardiola to BT Sport.

“We did a lot of good things, but it was not enough. We made mistakes in the penalty box at important moments. We had difficulty finding space to press,” he stated.

“One day we will break this gap to advance to the semifinals. In the first 20 to 25 minutes, we struggled to find space to press.”

“I felt better in the second half. However, you have to perform perfectly in this competition,” added Guardiola.

Pep Guardiola has not felt the Champions League title for a while. The 49-year-old coach last won it in the 2008-2009 and 2010-2011 seasons.
