Positive Cases of Corona in Italy Increase, Seria A Predicted as Doomsday If Postponed Again

By db-admin

DBasia.news – The 2020-2021 Serie A has only been running for three weeks after being stalled due to the corona virus pandemic. However, recently the discourse on postponement has returned to the surface due to the increasing number of positive cases of the corona virus in Italy.

Genoa are reported to have 17 new cases (including the player), while four Inter Milan players have tested positive for the corona virus (one of them is Radja Nainggolan), and two Napoli players have tested positive for Covid-19 until their City Government is prohibited from traveling to Turin.

Match week three of Serie A Juventus against Napoli failed to happen because Gennaro Gattuso’s Napoli did not come to Turin. As a result, with this increase which also plagued clubs, there was a discourse that Serie A would be postponed again.

Carlo Tavecchio as the former President of the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) who worked from 2014 to 2018 said he did not need any more delays. If Serie A is postponed again, he thinks it will be worse than the end of the world.

“There is a protocol that all authorities agree on and it applies to many different situations,” Tavecchio told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“As far as I know, there is also an agreement between the clubs that they will continue to play, even if the squad is significantly reduced by (positive) cases.”

“Therefore, local authorities must be in line with, or at least work with, the central state authorities. If Serie A is to be suspended again, it will be worse than the apocalypse for sport in this country.”

Current FIGC president Gabriele Gravina also has hopes that Serie A will continue, calling on clubs to strictly follow Covid-19 prevention protocols.

“Over the past few days, a series of comments have caused further confusion and sparked meaningless tensions,” Gravina added.

“What we ask is for everyone to stick to the protocol strictly, as this is the only instrument that can be relied on, we have to ensure that the sports competitions can continue as they have started.”

“The FIGC shares a clear approach with Health Minister Roberto Speranza and Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora, and it is only thanks to this relationship of trust and collaboration that we can face all the difficulties associated with this terrible pandemic.”

“We are very aware that with this spike in cases, the issue of reopening the stadium for fans does not have to be a priority,” explained Gravina.
