Real Madrid’s Curse Haunts Manchester City’s dream of winning the Champions League

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Manchester City may have been proud of getting rid of Real Madrid after winning back to back in the top 16 of the Champions League, 4-2 on aggregate. However, ManCity must be vigilant because a win over Madrid in the knockout stages usually leads to bad luck.

In the previous two consecutive seasons, Real Madrid have always been eliminated from the Champions League in the quarter-finals. The results were felt after they previously dominated this event for a span of a decade.

But in the early decades of the 21st century, Real Madrid has had a disappointing streak of results. Los Blancos have always been eliminated in the top 16 for six consecutive seasons between 2004-05 and 2009-10. A range that has been a stain for Madrid to date.

The arrival of Jose Mourinho changed Real Madrid’s fortunes. Under Mourinho, Real Madrid was able to qualify for the semifinals of the Champions League three times.

Real Madrid were able to become rulers of Europe in 2013-14, where they finally won La Decima. After that Real Madrid seemed to have broken a bad trend or a curse.

Barcelona then won the Champions League the following season. Barca defeated Juventus who eliminated Real Madrid in the semifinals.

Furthermore, Madrid confirmed their dominance by winning the Champions League trophy for three consecutive seasons, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18.
