DBasia.news – La Liga club Real Sociedad announced that one of their new players, David Silva, has been confirmed positive for the corona virus. Currently, Silva is undergoing independent isolation.

The club stated that Silva was asymptomatic and in good shape. Silva also has not joined his team mates.

David Silva must undergo isolation at home. This isolation period has the potential to disrupt the process of integrating Silva into his new team. Initially he started his first training on Tuesday (1/9) local time.

“Real Sociedad has confirmed that David Silva tested positive in the PCR test carried out this morning at the Policlinica Gipuzkoa,” wrote the club’s official statement as quoted by Sky Sports.

“It is the second test carried out by the new Real Sociedad player in the last 72 hours, the first was carried out last Friday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the result was negative.”

It is possible that Silva was exposed to Covid-19 while on his way to San Sebastian, the location where Sociedad’s headquarters is located. Due to this isolation, Silva will not be able to meet with his colleagues for the next two weeks.

“David Silva traveled yesterday on a regular flight from Bilbao and arrived in San Sebastian at night. A second test was carried out in accordance with the protocol to return to activities, the result was positive,” continued the official statement from Real Sociedad.

The Spanish midfielder recently joined Sociedad, leaving Manchester City after a ten-year career with the Premier League club.

Silva had stated that he wanted to help Real Sociedad win the title and hoped to compete with Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top of the league.

“During his first hours in San Sebastian, David Silva had not had the opportunity to head to Zubieta or greet his new colleagues at Sociedad,” added Sociedad’s side.

“The player has been isolated and showed no symptoms at all times. This case has been communicated to the competent health authorities,” concluded the club’s statement.
