Rivaldo Agrees for Marc-Andre ter Stegen to have a Raise, but Not the Same as Messi’s income

DBasia.news –  Barcelona legend, Rivaldo, thinks Marc-Andre ter Stegen deserves a salary increase at Camp Nou. However, according to him the salary increase cannot be equated with Lionel Messi.

Barcelona is currently trying to renew Ter Stegen’s contract that will expire in 2022. Blaugrana wants to extend his contract until 2024 and offer a raise.

Barcelona reportedly has offered a salary of 6.5 million euros per year plus bonuses. However, recent reports states that Ter Stegen has rejected the proposal.

According to Sport, the goalkeeper declined the offer as he saw that the players who played less than him were able to renew their contracts with higher values. The German goalkeeper just wanted to feel more valued as one of the team’s important pillars.

Rivaldo agreed that Ter Stegen was indeed eligible for a raise. However, according to him, the goalkeeper did not deserve the salary equivalent to top Barcelona stars like Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez. Messi is currently the Barcelona player with the highest salary of 40 million euros per year.

“Barcelona is negotiating a contract extension with Ter Stegen, and I agree that he deserves a better salary for everything he has done for the club in recent years,” Rivaldo said at Soccerway.

“Of course, a lot will depend on the demands of the player as I also don’t believe that he should get the same salary as Suarez or Messi, but he must be one of the better paid squad members.”

“He made a rescue and a team was built from behind. He knows how to play with his feet, has saved the team many times and he clearly deserves a better income, “he concluded.

Ter Stegen himself has defended Barcelona since 2014. He has also recorded 224 appearances and is one of the best goalkeepers in the world today.
