Robert Lewandowski Wins Champions League Top Score Award

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski won the Champions League top scorer after ending the competition with a record 15 goals.

In the final match at Estadio da Luz, Monday (24/8), Munich managed to defeat Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with a narrow score of 1-0. The single goal of Die Roten’s victory was scored by Kingsley Coman.

Relief radiated from Lewandowski’s face as the referee blew the long whistle marking the last match. The 32-year-old player’s long waiting period is finally over.

“Never stop dreaming and give up when you fail. Work hard to achieve your goals,” wrote Lewandowski on his social media account.

“Thank you for your support (Munich supporters), for believing in our abilities. We are European Champions!”

The Champions League has indeed become one of the trophies that Lewandowski really wants. He almost grabbed it while defending Borussia Dortmund, seven years ago.

But at that time, Munich, who was defending him, buried Dortmund’s dream. Die Borussen were defeated by a narrow score of 1-2.

The season after that failure, Lewandowski crossed to Munich. The chances of winning the Champions League are certainly greater with the Allianz Arena stronghold.

But hopes are not as beautiful as reality because Munich is often stuck in the semifinals. Managers like Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti were unable to help Lewandowski realize his dream.

Fortuna Goddess finally sided with Lewandowski and Munchen this season. That luck might be given through the figure of Hansi Flick who was appointed as the new coach in October 2019.

With Flick, Munich’s game has changed drastically. He was also able to maximize Lewandowski’s role as a goal-hungry bomber.

The Polish player scored a total of 55 goals in 47 matches in all competitions. A total of 15 goals of which were created in the Champions League so that Lewandowski has the right to win the title of top scorer.

Unfortunately Lewandowski failed to add to his tally of goals in the final. This made him unable to pass Cristiano Ronaldo’s record as the Champions League top scorer in one season with 17 goals.

Even before the final match, Lewandowski always scored a goal every time he played in the Champions League this season. However, it doesn’t seem too bothered because the main target is that the title has been achieved.
