DBasia.news – The fate of Euro 2020 is still undetermined. However, seeing the current condition it is not impossible that the title will be suspended. Roberto Mancini, manager of the Italian national team, claimed no problem with that.
Quoted from AFP in Jakarta on Monday, to Rai Sport, Mancini said, “We will win the European Championship this summer, we can also win this championship if it is held in 2021,” Mancini said.
“Let’s wait for what has been decided by UEFA, but I adapt to everything, right now the priority is to save lives.”
European soccer’s governing body meets on Tuesday to discuss all domestic and European competitions, as well as Euro 2020, which will take place from 12 June to 12 July.
Italy will host the opening match in Rome on June 12, in a tournament that will be played in 12 countries on the continent.
All sporting events in Italy have been suspended until April 3 with 60 million of the country’s population isolated to avoid the spread of the virus which killed 1,809 and infected more than 24,000 people.
“The fact is the problem we are facing now, other countries will also face it soon,” continued the former Manchester City and Inter Milan coach.
“First we need to protect public health, we have to wait for the peak, then when the situation starts to subside we can discuss and decide everything later,”
“When we return to our normal lives, to football, we will feel happier, we will find freedom, be able to return to matches at the stadium, have fun,” added the 55-year-old coach.
“This dramatic situation can make you good. I hope so.”
Italy won all 10 of their Euro 2020 qualifying matches when they bounced back under Mancini after previously failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
They approached Euro 2020 to pursue their second European Champion title, after winning it at the Euro of 1968.
