The Champions League semi-finals without English, Spanish, and Italian teams

By db-admin

DBasia.news – The 2019/2020 Champions League semi-finals will bring together four teams from Germany and France. For the first time, there aee no representatives from England, Spain or Italy.

Manchester City, who controlled the match, had to admit Lyon’s superiority. Kevin De Bruyne’s goal in the 69th minute was met by three goals by Lyon through Maxwel Cornet (24 ‘) and Moussa Dembele (79’, 87 ‘).

Thus, there would be no representatives from England in this season’s Champions League semifinals. The four teams that qualified are RB Leipzig, Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon and Bayern Munich.

Based on Opta Joe’s records, this is the first time since the 1995-1996 season that there has been no English or Spanish team in the semifinals. This fact is a sign of setback for the two countries.

England and Spain do have regular teams to win the Champions League. At least, participants from these two countries can advance to the semifinals.

From Spain, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are the three teams that have often progressed to the semifinals of the Champions League. In fact, Madrid is the only team that has won the Champions League title for three consecutive seasons.

Meanwhile, the choice of teams in England is more diverse. Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are teams that carry the name of the land of Great Britain.

Remarkably, in last season’s edition, the Premier League sent two of its representatives to the final. Liverpool challenged Tottenham Hotspur in the top match.

In addition to the end of the English and Spanish team era, this season’s Champions League also marks the collapse of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s hegemony. This is the first season Ronaldo or Messi has missed the Champions League semifinals since the last time in 2004-2005.
