The Presence of Thiago Silva Will Strengthen Chelsea’s Back Line

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Chelsea are increasingly busy to strengthen the squad for the 2020-21 season. Not stopping after recruiting Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, The Blues are getting closer to bringing in three more players who are: Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz, and Thiago Silva.

Chilwell left-back Leicester City with a tag of 50 million pounds, then Havertz who is predicted to cost up to a total of 100 million euros from Bayer Leverkusen, and Thiago Silva, whose contract ends with PSG (Paris Saint-Germain).

Judging by Werner, Ziyech, Chilwell, and Havertz, Chelsea looks like wanting to secure talented young players to become the backbone for the long term. But in Thiago Silva’s case it was different.

Thiago Silva is 35 years old and is coming to the end of his career. The Brazilian center-back leaves PSG after eight years at the club since moving from AC Milan in 2012. Silva also has 89 caps and seven goals with the Brazilian national team.

However, Silva’s presence will give Frank Lampard a new color in the defense and Chelsea squad. Reportedly Silva has agreed to a two-year contract offered by Chelsea.

According to Football.London, Silva’s presence can increase the team’s strength in terms of playing experience at the back. In addition to the quality of the academy products, Fluminense has a good leadership spirit and true professionals.

Comments from his PSG coach Thomas Tuchel could be a clue to Chelsea that they will get a center-back who can help the team’s youth squad.

“From day one, it was great to work with him, and that will not change. He (Thiago Silva) is super professional, he is still our captain and will continue to the end,” said Tuchel last June.

“This is a very difficult decision, with various opinions. Thiago is not an ordinary player, we have a great relationship.”

“He is very reliable every day and together and we can still win three titles in five games with him,” he explained.

Since the departure of John Terry and Gary Cahill, Chelsea have indeed had Cesar Azpilicueta as an experienced defender and captain. However, Silva’s presence at the heart of the defense can calm the back line of the team, especially in guiding players like Andreas Christensen, Fikayo Tomori, and Kurt Zouma.
