To avoid jail time Diego Costa pays a fine of Rp. 8.68 billion

DBasia.news – Atletico Madrid striker, Diego Costa was found guilty by a Spanish court over his tax evasion case which caused a loss of € 1 million.
Costa was found guilty of not reporting the € 5 million income he received while moving to Chelsea in the summer of 2014. In addition, Costa was also said to have embezzled the results of his image rights.
On Thursday (4/6), a Spanish court sentenced him to six months in prison. However, the 31-year-old player does not need to go to jail.
As is known, the law in Spain allows a defendant, who is sentenced to a prison of less than two years in a case of non-violent violations, not to serve the prison term providing that he pays a financial fine.
Thus, Costa is required to pay taxes that have not been paid for € 1 million plus a € 500 thousand fine.
Costa left Atletico for Chelsea after the Premier League club agreed to atone the £ 32 million release clause. During his career at Chelsea, Costa was a success by being able to score 59 goals in 120 appearances. He was also able to win two Premiere League titles and one League Cup.
However, his feud with Chelsea manager at the time, Antonio Conte, has made Costa leave Stamford Bridge. Atletico finally recruited their former striker back in September 2017, although Costa was only able to join in early 2018 as Los Rojiblancos was embroiled in a transfer embargo from FIFA.
The Spanish national team striker then successfully grabbed the Europa League trophy and European Super Cup in 2018, but failed to repeat his slick performance like his first period with Los Rojiblancos. In the 2019/20 season, he only packed two goals in 19 appearances.
Costa and colleagues are now preparing to resume La Liga, which has been postponed due to the corona virus pandemic. La Liga is scheduled to continue competition this season without spectators on June 11, beginning with the derby between Sevilla and Real Betis. Atletico will face Athletic Bilbao on June 14.
Diego Simeone’s squad is currently stuck in sixth place, 13 points behind Barcelona who are at the top of the table.
