DBasia.newsKieran Trippier is one of England national team player with a shiny performance during the 2018 World Cup in Russia. His performance was consistent and he has the talent to create set-pieces passing, one of the key reasons why The Three Lions could go that far.

However, Trippier’s name was remembered the most when he scored the goal by a beautiful free kick to Croatia. The goal brought England won 1-0, though, in the end, they had to give up a 1-2 score.

However, Trippier scored his name in the history as the third England player who scored a goal in the World Cup semifinal after Sir Bobby Charlton and Gary Lineker.

Interviewed during England preparation for the UEFA Nations League match, Trippier admitted that he watched the record of his free-kick goal hundred times. He did that to increase his confidence.

“I’m not going to lie to you, I’ve watched it back about 100 times,” said the 27-year-old player during the training session at St George’s Park.

“Obviously, I enjoyed that moment but even now it still hurts that we got beat. But I did watch it back. Obviously, it was frustrating to get knocked out in the semi-final but we’re proud of ourselves as a team and how far we came in the World Cup,” the Tottenham Hotspur player continued.

Trippier may be the star of 2018 World Cup. But he denied the opinion that he would be the main starter during the match between English against Spain in the opening match of UEFA Nations League this weekend.

Kyle Walker would be his rival, moreover if coach Gareth Southgate wants to play with three players in the defensive line. Joe Gomez who performed brightly with Liverpool also might be the barrier for Trippier to fill the main right defender position.

“Obviously, all the boys are doing well here and for their clubs, so that’s the manager’s decision if I play or don’t play. So, if I don’t play I’m not going to be disappointed, I’ll help my team-mates, but I’ll be training as hard as I can to make sure I am picked,” the Burnley player revealed.
