UEFA 2021 Super Cup winners, Chelsea might lose Hakim Ziyech

Chelsea defeated Villarreal on penalties at Windsor Park, Thursday (12/8).The two teams drew 1-1 until the extra time ended.

Chelsea’s only goal was scored by Ziyech in the 27th minute. The Moroccan player calmly struck the ball into Villarreal’s goal using Kai Havertz’s pass.

However, Ziyech had to be withdrawn towards the end of the first half. He appeared to have suffered a shoulder injury after an aerial duel in a corner kick situation.

Ziyech had to be replaced by Christian Pulisic in the 43rd minute. He spent the rest of the match on the bench with his right arm wrapped in a bandage.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has yet to confirm how long Ziyech will be out of action. However, he considered this a serious injury.

“If you take a player out in the first half it’s serious. Unfortunately he was the decisive player in the last game,” Tuchel told BT Sport.

Ziyech’s injury is a nightmare for Tuchel and Chelsea. The former Aja Amsterdam player began to show his quality in this pre-season.

Ziyech became the top scorer in pre-season with a collection of three goals. He will almost certainly be a mainstay when Chelsea host Crystal Palace in the 2021-2022 Premier League opener, this weekend.
