AC Milan’s tactics under Stefano Pioli’s upbringing

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  The match against Lecce at the San Siro in Serie A match continued on Monday (10/21) early morning Western Indonesian Time, will be Stefano Pioli’s debut match as AC Milan coach.

Apart from his career record that many decorated with dismissal or even without the achievement of the trophy, Pioli is still an experienced coach in Serie A who has coached Lazio, Inter Milan, and Fiorentina. Pioli has a variety of tactics in the way he trains.

As reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, there is a possibility that Pioli will adopt a 4-3-3 tactic that is his mainstay at Fiorentina. In this tactic, the position of the goalkeeper and backline is occupied by Gianluigi Donnarumma, Andrea Conti, Mateo Musacchio, Alessio Romagnoli, and Theo Hernandez.

In the middle there was a chance Lucas Paqueta played with Lucas Biglia and Franck Kessie, then the trident of the front lines was filled by Rafael Leao, Krzysztof Piatek, and Suso. Pioli’s tactics and players are predicted to be applied when playing against Lecce.

Added by Sempre Milan, Pioli also has other alternative tactics such as 4-2-3-1 or even a three-defender scheme with variations: 3-4-3 or 3-5-2. Pioli’s tendency to play the tactic is based on attacks from both sides of the wing, agile wing attackers, and strikers who can penetrate between opposing back lines.

Pioli used to rely on Mauro Icardi at Inter Milan and Giovanni Simeone at Fiorentina. The game that he applies is also flexible, he can rely on counterattacks or games based on ball possession.

In the defense phase, the high pressure (high pressing) made by Pioli’s landing team to quickly seize the ball and launch a counterattack. This scheme works well if Milan has creativity in midfield.

Milan has Paqueta, Giacomo Bonaventura, Suso, and Hakan Calhanoglu to be the creators of attack from midfield play. Finally, how to defend Pioli’s team usually also relies on one-on-one escort (man-marking).

How to defend is high risk because if one player is passed by an opponent then they can launch an attack, and make the team’s defense unbalanced. But, Pioli prefers it over zonal marking (keep the area and prevent the ball from entering this area).

Milan currently ranks 13th in Serie A and four points adrift of Napoli in the Champions League zone. The victory of the Lecce counter is obligatory for them if they do not want to get further away from the zone.
