Alkmaar Fails to Equal Ajax

DBasia.news – AZ Alkmaar was surprisingly defeated by Willem II with 1-3 at home.
This defeat has made AZ stay in second place with 41 points or three points adrift of Ajax.
For Willem, these three points has made them move up one level to third with a collection of 36 points. But they could be overtaken by PSV Eindhoven who will travel to VVV Venlo.
AZ were superior first through Oussama Idrisi in the first round. But Willem rose to change the score to 3-1 through goals by Mats Kohlert, Vangelis Pavlidis and Mike Ndayishimiye in the second half.
Although mastering the ball to 60 percent, but the attacks launched by AZ are less effective. Of the 16 attempted kicks, only three were aimed right to the goal. While the visitors made 14 attempts, seven of them met the target.
The visitors almost took the lead through the action of Vangelis Pavlidis in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, the hard kick from outside the penalty box went sideways from the goal guarded by Rody de Boer.
The long-awaited goal was created in the 27th minute. Oussama Idrissi’s right foot kicked into the left corner of the goal and was unable to ignored by goalkeeper, Wellenreuther.
Disaster for the host came in the second round. Willem, who relied on counterattacks, played effectively.
Starting from AZ defender managing the bait, the ball was taken by Pol Llonch to be passed on to Vangelis Pavlidis. His shot was blocked by the goalkeeper but the ball returned to Mats Koehlert.
Vangelis Pavlidis changed the scoreboard to 2-1 for the visitors in the 78th minute. The goal was again created through a quick counterattack. Pavlidis tricked the goalkeeper by picking up the ball after receiving a breakthrough pass from Damil Dankerlui.
While Willem’s third goal was created in the 83rd minute through a beautiful kick from Mike Ndayishimiye who curled outside the penalty box to outwit Rody de Boer.
Mike Ndayishimiye’s goal was the last to make AZ accept the fourth defeat of the season.
