Antonio Conte Rejects Opportunity to Join AS Roma
By db-admin
DBasia.news – AS Roma had tried to recruit Inter Milan coach, Antonio Conte, earlier in the season. But Conte decided not to accept the opportunity.
Conte was indeed linked with Roma before taking over Inter. Conte even revealed that he had conducted initial conversations with the Giallorossi.
The process of the conversation took place before there was an approach from Inter Milan. However, the former Chelsea boss decided that the time was not right. In the process of approaching Roma, Conte briefly spoke with his former Italian teammate, Francesco Totti.
Totti, who spent his entire playing career with Roma when he was director at the club until the legend resigned after Roma decided to bring in Paulo Fonseca.
“With Francesco, there was an old friendship. He explained the situation to me and told me about the possibility of Rome,” Conte said as quoted by Goal.
“After thinking calmly, I decided it was not the right time.”
“At that time there was no offer from Inter. There was no other team. I did an evaluation and decided to reject the proposal,” added Conte.
“I know Roma is a big club, but it’s not the time. Maybe in the future.”
Conte later stated that he was impressed with
the work done by Fonseca in Rome, who are currently fifth in the Serie A
standings.
