Arsenal is torn between Bringing in Philippe Coutinho or Willian
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Arsenal reportedly would prefer to bring in Chelsea winger, Willian rather than Barcelona attacking midfielder, Philipe Coutinho. Previously, the two players were rumored to be the target of the Gunners in the transfer market next summer.
The success of Mikel Arteta’s team in winning the FA Cup trophy last season, after silencing Chelsea, 2-1, in the final, has made club management ready to support Arteta’s efforts to strengthen the Gunners squad through the presence of new players, including the possibility of recruiting Willian and Coutinho.
Reportedly, because Arsenal’s Technical Director, Edu, has a good relationship with the player’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, the Gunners have the opportunity to recruit the two players. Joorabchian is an agent of Willian and Coutinho. However, the transfer funds that had been prepared was unable to recruit Willian and Coutinho at once.
As a result, Arsenal will reportedly choose to recruit one of the two players, and the choice fell to Willian. “Arsenal will probably rule out leaving Coutinho, including the possibility of a loan, to be able to get Willian. Although older than Coutinho, Willian is a cheaper option for the Gunners than to bring in Coutinho, ” wrote the Mirror on Thursday (6/8).
The Gunners do not need to pay the transfer value to Chelsea, as the club that owns Willian. The reason is, the 31-year-old winger’s contract with the Blues will expire at the end of this month. For the sake of recruiting Willian, the Gunners management only had to negotiate directly with the Brazilian winger, especially regarding the duration of the contract and salary amount.
On the other hand, Barcelona, as the club owner of Coutinho, is reportedly looking for a new club for the former Inter Milan attacking midfielder. It is hoped that the departure of the player who was loaned to Bayern Munich last season can help reduce the pressure on the Catalan team’s financial condition.
In fact, Barcelona reportedly offered the 28-year-old attacking midfielder as part of a move for Arsenal midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi to the Blaugrana. However, Barcelona still asked for an additional transfer of 7 million pounds from the Gunners in the player’s swap option. This condition has made the Gunners rethink about recruiting Coutinho.
