Arsenal legend Defends Matteo Guendouzi When Choked Neal Maupay

DBasia.news – Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes there is nothing wrong with strangulation by Matteo Guendouzi to Brighton & Hove Albion players, Neal Maupay when both teams clashed in Week 30 of the Premier League on Saturday (6/20).

The game tension was running hot in the match. Arsenal were ahead of Nicolas Pepe’s goal, but were rewarded by two Brighton goals scored by Lewis Dunk and Neal Maupay. Brighton also won 2-1 and this is their second win over Arsenal this season.

Maupay was in the spotlight at the match because he was thought to have deliberately violated Bernd Leno until he was injured. After the match Maupay heated up the game’s tension by calling the Arsenal players worthy of the defeat because they talked too much and were arrogant.

Guendouzi became the most tempered player with Maupay. Both were involved in a commotion when the game ended. Guendouzi also briefly strangled Maupay and could potentially be penalized or fined if the FA considers him guilty.

Commenting on the incident Ian Wright did not see anything wrong with Guendouzi. According to him such emotion must indeed exist in football because it shows the passion and enthusiasm of playing.

“He also hit it (Maupay) – you would think he was shocked, but that was only a little (one time),” Ian Wright said.

“He and Guendouzi were hot during the match and I think he talked about Guendouzi at the end of the game.”

“He (Guendouzi) gave him a little strangulation there and he might get into trouble for that. But for me we have to show the fight,” said Wright.

The loss of Guendouzi if he was banned by the FA would obviously make a headache for Mikel Arteta who no longer has David Luiz due to accumulation of cards and injured Leno for the next match.

Arsenal will visit Southampton headquarters in the Premier League match continued on Friday (6/26). Ahead of the match Arsenal swallowed two successive defeats to Manchester City (0-3) and Brighton (1-2).
