AS Roma Manager Wants to Permanent Chris Smalling

By db-admin

DBasia.news – AS Roma manager Paulo Fonseca seems to be smitten by Chris Smalling’s brilliant performance so far this season. Giallorossi camp wanted to permanent the status even though the English national team defender was called to go back home to Manchester United as the rightful owner.

Smalling did come on loan as a player from Manchester United to Rome at the start of the season. He was considered to have no place in the squad concoction of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the arrival of Harry Maguire.

Smalling unexpectedly performed nicely with Roma. He was transformed into a mainstay defender of the Italian capital club.

Smalling’s neat appearance was certainly known by Manchester United. The Red Devils then called him home in order to add strength in their defense.

But that was opposed by Fonseca. He will ask the management to desperately defend Smalling.

“I will do everything I can to keep him in Rome next year. I know he wanted to stay so let’s see what will happen,” Fonseca told ESPN.

Fonseca has indeed became an important figure behind Smalling’s resurgence in performance. The trust he gave made the 30-year-old defender looked comfortable on the field.

Yet when strengthening Manchester United, Smalling is known to love making blunders. This also made his name unpopular in the eyes of supporters.

“He is a wonderful man, very humble, very professional. He is worshiped by fans and proves himself as one of the leaders in the dressing room,” he added.

“It is not easy for England center-backs to adapt so quickly to Italian football, moreover his record there is not good. But he is extraordinary.”

Roma borrowed Smalling for one season at a cost of 3 million Euros. To change their status to permanent, it is estimated that they have to spend around 28 million euros.
