Atletico Madrid’s victory over Liverpool is only a matter of luck

DBasia.news –  Liverpool defender, Virgil Van Dijk, is still unable to accept the 0-1 defeat won by Liverpool when they traveld to Wanda Metropolitano in the first leg of the Champions League top 16 round, Wednesday (19/02) AM.

In the match that took place at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Liverpool had to be wary. Juergen Klopp’s team were forced to lose by 0-1 because of Saul Niguez’s goal at the start of the first half. According to Virgil van Dijk, that does not prove Atletico Madrid is greater than them.

“We know this will be a fierce battle at their home with the support of their fans. It’s regrettable that we conceded a quick goal. Moreover, that was actually not a goal opportunity for them. It was just luck, “Virgil van Dijk said as quoted from the official UEFA website.

Van Dijk also believes Liverpool will be able to avenge the defeat and reverse the situation in the second leg which will take place at Anfield Stadium. He felt that their game in the first leg was good enough. Their only problem was failing to make golden opportunities.

“The message (from the coach) at halftime is to keep playing. We have more control over the ball throughout the game. Unfortunately, we were unable to create golden opportunities, “explained Van Dijk. “However, we still have 90 minutes to fix that and have to be confident.”

Although the victory that was won in the first leg at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium was of sheer luck as Virgil van Dijk said, Atletico Madid still deserves a thumbs up. At least, they had one neat achievement. That was the success of making Liverpool fail to open fire right on goal. The last time the Reds experienced that was on a trip to Napoli last season.
