Barcelona Hoped to be Removed from the Champions League
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Real Madrid defender, Dani Carvajal, firmly stated that Real Madrid would be easier to win the Champions League this season if Barcelona were eliminated in the group phase. He also openly hopes before entering the last 16, Barcelona would be eliminated from the Champions League.
Barcelona are currently on top of Group F with eight points, one ahead of Borussia Dortmund and four above Inter Milan, while Slavia Prague are still chasing their first win at the bottom.
Enough with the victory against Dortmund at Camp Nou, December 27, Ernesto Valverde’s team will qualify for the knockout phase, with Inter visiting Prague at the same time.
Barca appeared below expectations in Europe’s hottest club competition this season, with only a goalless draw at Dortmund and at home versus Slavia, plus a narrow victory over the Czech club and a less convincing performance over Inter.
Carvajal hopes Madrid’s eternal rival would leave first, so that it can help ease the steps of Zinedine Zidane’s team to the next round.
“I will not lie to you,” the Spanish international told Marca. “I would be happier if Barcelona did not qualify.
“They will be candidates in the Champions League and they are our biggest rivals. We will not lie, I prefer when they lose in the Champions Leagues as they are one of our rivals and more or less the same in the Champions League.
“They have a
spectacular squad and a challenger. All the big teams that were knocked out would
be better for us.”
