DBasia.news – The 41-year-old Barcelona legend, Carles Puyol, refused an offer to return to the former club and fill the post of Director of Sports.
Puyol is a former Barcelona captain and formidable defender. Throughout his professional career, the player born in La Pobla de Segur, April 13 1978, played for Barcelona from 1995 (from the academy) until 2014.
The winner of three Champions League titles and six LaLiga titles, left Barcelona in 2015, after being assistant to Andoni Zubizarreta, Barca’s previous sporting director. Puyol admitted that he had carefully weighed in the offer.
“After considering a lot of things, I decided not to accept the offer from the club,” Puyol stated, as reported from BBC Sport.
“The decision was not easy as I always said I would gladly return to the place I considered home, but certain personal projects where I was in it, I would not be there now to give you the exclusive dedication that this position deserves.”
“I want to thank the club for their trust in me by offering this position (Director of Sports), a position with many responsibilities,” he explained.
Currently, the recruitment section is held by two former Barcelona players, Eric Abidal and Patrick Kluivert. Both of them has also filled the empty space left by Pep Segura, former Barca General Manager, who left in the summer.
