By db-admin
DBasia.news – Barcelona officially terminated the contract of Quique Setien from the team coaching position. The news was conveyed by the Blaugrana through their social media.
Barcelona terminated Setien’s contract from his position as club coach, Tuesday (18/8/2020) AM. The former Real Betis coach dismissed out after bringing Lionel Messi and his colleagues to the title this season.
In the hands of Setien, Barcelona failed to maintain dominance in the Spanish League in the last two years after losing their competition to Real Madrid who emerged as champions. In the Copa Del Rey event, Barca fell from Athletic Bilbao in the quarter-finals.
Not only that, Setien’s Barcelona also appeared less satisfying in the Champions League. The Blaugrana were eliminated in the quarter-finals after being slaughtered by Bayern Munich with a score of 2-8!
The defeat ultimately led to the termination of Setien’s contract by Barcelona. The announcement of Quique Setien’s dismissal was made via the Twitter account @FCBarcelona.
“Quique Setien is no longer the team coach. The new coach will be announced in the next few days as part of the team restructuring,” read a statement written by Barcelona regarding Setien’s dismissal.
Quique Setien himself previously served as Barcelona coach in January 2020. At that time, he replaced Ernesto Valverde who was dismissed from Camp Nou.
In total for seven months in charge of the Barcelona team, Setien has undergone 25 matches in all competitions. As a result, he led Barca to win 16 times, draw 4 times, and fell 5 times without winning a trophy.
A number of names are also predicted to be potential replacements for Setien at Barcelona. Starting from Ronald Koeman, Mauricio Pochettino, to Thierry Henry.
