Barcelona President Ensures Quique Setien Remains Blaugrana Coach

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu acknowledged that Xavi would sooner become his former club’s coach, but insisted he is ready to continue to support Quique Setien to handle the club next season.

Barcelona so far appear less impressive under the direction of Setien and currently occupy second place in the La Liga standings, behind Real Madrid who have a great chance to win the 2019/20 season.

The complicated situation plus with Blaugrana’s inconsistent performance, led to speculation that Setien will be dismissed at the end of the season and Xavi brought in as his successor.

Despite hinting Xavi could be Barcelona’s future coach, the president still showed his support for Setien, with the two already discussing plans for next season.

“Xavi will be Barcelona’s coach sooner or later. But at the moment we are not looking for a new coach, we are with Quique,” Bartomeu told TV3.

“Quique Setien will coach the team in the Champions League and the remaining two matches of La Liga.”

“We have a very unusual season, we will play in August and he will continue to train. If we pass Napoli, we will be in Lisbon.”

“Our desire is to abide by the contract and Setien has it. We go to Setien’s house to discuss the future, plans for next season. He will probably remain a coach and I am very interested to hear what he thinks.”

“He gave a lot of confidence to Riqui Puig and Ansu [Fati]. We have seen Pedri and [Francisco] Trincao in their best form, there is hope.”
