Dean Henderson’s Contract Extension Could Be a Threat to De Gea at Manchester United

DBasia.news – Manchester United have officially extended goalkeeper Dean Henderson’s contract until 2025. Henderson has spent the last two seasons on loan at Sheffield United.

After performing brilliantly at Sheffield United, last week Henderson announced he was leaving and returning to Old Trafford.

“Manchester United are pleased to announce that Dean Henderson has signed a new contract, which will tie him at the club until June 2025, with an option to extend for a year,” said an announcement from Manchester United.

Henderson has made 89 appearances in total for Sheffield after joining in 2018. He helped Sheffield promoting to the Premier League and secure ninth place last season.

“The trust that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the club has shown me through this contract means a lot, and will continue my development as a goalkeeper,” said Henderson.

The presence of Henderson could be a threat to Spain goalkeeper David de Gea, who has often received criticism.

“We are delighted that Dean has signed his new contract. He’s had a great season at Sheffield United, where he has gained a lot of experience and is growing as a player and a person,” said Solskjaer.

“We are in a strong position in the goalkeeping sector and that gives us competition for the positions we want in the squad,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, De Gea had emphasized that he is still United’s main goalkeeper. “I’m still No.1. I believe in myself.”

“I have shown quality for years. So I am always ready to play and help the team,” De Gea emphasized.
