Defeating Palace and Newcastle, West Ham Lead in the Race of Getting Batshuayi

By db-admin

DBasia.news – West Ham United were reported to have surpassed Crystal Palace and Newcastle United in the race for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi, who was allowed to look for a new club this summer.

Quoting from Express, Chelsea were reportedly ready to sell Batshuayi in the summer transfer window at a price of £40 million in line with the approaching of Timo Werner to join from RB Leipzig.

Crystal Palace had asked about the availability of that striker they had borrowed in the second half of last season, but The Eagles did not want to fulfill the request submitted by Frank Lampard’s team.

Express also claimed that Newcastle were interested in Batshuayi, but it was West Ham who was in the lead to secure the signature of that 26-year-old player.

The Hammers really need a new striker after Sebastien Haller, who was carried off from Eintracht Frankfurt at a price of £36 million last summer, only contributed seven goals and two assists in 29 appearances so far this season.

Batshuayi himself has been in The Blues uniform since 2016 after being brought in from Marseille, but he was previously loaned to three different clubs – Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, and Crystal Palace – for failing to get regular minutes of play.

The Belgian striker has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, scored eight goals and provided three assists. But if he does not leave Stamford Bridge, Batshuayi will have to deal directly with Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud, and Werner to be in the starting line-up next season.
