By db-admin
DBasia.news – The 72-year-old Dick Advocaat has agreed to take over Feyenoord’s chair for the rest of the season after the departure of Jaap Stam, Dutch media reported on Wednesday.
Quoting Reuters, this decision continues the latest trend of the veteran coach to help the troubled team.
Feyenoord has not officially announced the appointment of the manager on Wednesday. However, Advocaat has confirmed his interest in a Dutch radio and television interview with Veronica. He said he immediately left his role as a Champions League analyst and spoke with the club in Rotterdam.
Advocaat served three times as coach of the Dutch national team, the last for six months in 2017 before switching to Ronald Koeman.
He failed to save Sparta Rotterdam from relegation at the Eredivisie in the 2017-2018 season but he succeeded in helping Utrecht last season and led them to a place in the Europa League.
He saved Sunderland from the threat of relegation in the English Premier League in 2015.
Advocaat has also worked at Glasgow Rangers, Borussia Moenchengladbach, Zenit St Petersburg, and Fenerbahce.
Other experience, he has coached the Belgian national team, Russia, Serbia, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.
Advocaat also worked at Feyenoord in 2016 as an advisor to coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst. He is expected to start working on the team for the first time at VVV Venlo on Sunday.
Feyenoord made a bad start to the season under Stam, winning only three of 11 matches and standing 12th in the Dutch league table. They also slumped at the bottom of the Europa League group after losing to Rangers and Young Boys.
The previous coach who is also a former Manchester United defender, Stam, only lasted 120 days in the job and then he resigned on Monday.
