DBasia.news – UEFA Nations League match between England against Spain at Wembley Stadium this weekend was intense. Both teams were exchanging the attack. The Dutch referee, Danny Makkelie issued four yellow cards.
England were defeated with a 1-2 score. The squad of Gareth Southgate were actually could score the balancing goal in the injury time by Danny Welbeck.
However, Makkelie ruled out the goal because he assumed Welbeck made a foul toward Spain goalkeeper, David De Gea. The England players criticized Makkelie’s decision.
One of them was the captain, Harry Kane. He considered the referee stole one point that should be on his team.
“In the big moments you need the referee to stay strong but unfortunately he has bottled it. In the big moments, you need a firm referee who doesn’t get decisions wrong under pressure.”
“Danny Welbeck stood there, De Gea went up, he caught the ball but as he went down he fell on Danny, no foul or anything, and the ball dropped,” Kane said.
Southgate also gave his comment. He thought at that moment, De Gea did a mistake. “The two defenders tried to block Danny out of it, De Gea came over the top and just dropped it. It’s clear for everyone to see. It should have been a goal,” Southgate said.
