Ernesto Valverde Discusses the Strength of Barcelona’s Midfield

Barcelona has a fairly stouty squad in the midfield sector. The defending LaLiga champions are Sergio Busquets, Frenkie de Jong, Arthur, Sergi Roberto, Ivan Rakitic, Carles Alena and Arturo Vidal.

Not surprisingly, these players needed to compete to win Ernesto Valverde’s heart. Usually, the coach would play Busquets, De Jong and Arthur in the position of three midfielders.

One of the players who were eliminated was Ivan Rakitic. Reportedly, the 31-year-old player intends to leave in the upcoming transfer market.

Nevertheless, Valverde views the situation as a surplus value. He claimed to have not seen any problems despite having many midfielders.

“We have many choices in the middle sector. We have a lot of players,” explained Valverde as reported by Sport.

“Arthur did not take part at the start of the season, but he remained at a high level. Meanwhile, Arturo Vidal came at an important moment in the last match and played very well. Internal competition is always good,” said the coach.

Meanwhile, Valverde wants to take advantage of the international break to continue polishing his squad. The tactician hopes that no Barcelona player will return home injured.

“We can train intensely and prepare the team better. After a break of 15 days, we will play important matches in LaLiga and the Champions League. We must be prepared to face it,” explained Valverde.
