Feyenoord Slumped, Jaap Stam Retires As Coach
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Jaap Stam resigned as Feyenoord coach following a huge 4-0 defeat to Ajax in the De Klassieker duel at the start of the Dutch Eredivisie this 2019/20 season.
Under the former Manchester United defender who replaced Giovanni van Bronckhorst last June, Feyenoord has won only three times in 11 league games this season, so the Rotterdam club fell to 12th in the league table.
The last match handled by the 47-year-old was when Feyenoord was slaughtered 0-4 by Ajax Amsterdam last Sunday.
“Certainly this is not an easy decision,” Stam said in a statement on the club’s website.
“I’ve been thinking about this for a long time and it’s hard. My conclusion is that it’s for the good of the club, the players and myself if I quit.”
Stam previously coached the English league club Reading which he delivered to the Championship playoffs in his first coaching.
He joined Feyenoord, who was in a protruding position in the Europa League group phase, from another Dutch league club, PEC Zwolle.
