Filippo Inzaghi brings down the Curse of his Back Number at AC Milan

DBasia.news –  A curse has long lodged in the AC Milan number nine jersey. It seems, only high-skilled players are able to release the curse.

That was visible in the last few seasons. A number of big names such as Fernando Torres to Gonzalo Higuain appeared to have declined while in that jersey.

The curse seems to have continued this season. Krzysztof Piatek who wore it has only packed five goals in 20 appearances.

Whereas last season, the Polish striker scored 11 goals in 21 matches despite coming in mid-season. At that time he was wearing the number 19 jersey.

From a number of players who have wore it, there are three names that were able to conquer the number nine jersey. They are Marco Van Basten, George Weah, and Filippo Inzaghi.

The last name mentioned has spoken up related to the curse. Inzaghi flatly refused to believe him.

“It makes me smile. Using Milan’s number nine is hard for anyone, but the curse is not there,” Inzaghi told Sky Sports Italia.

“It was like when I should have been able to curse (Marco) Van Basten and (George) Weah. It’s not fair to retire my jersey and that was also not retired after Van Basten. That is an important number that will produce another goal.”

Although the curse is true, Inzaghi already has a way to remove it. The player who is now the coach of Benevento suggested Zlatan Ibrahimovic to wear the jersey.

“If Ibrahimovic uses the number nine, the curse would be over,” he stated.

Inzaghi has strengthened Milan for eleven seasons from 2001 to 2012. In total he contributed 73 goals from 202 matches.
