Ilkay Gundogan Almost Joined Bayern Munich

By db-admin

DBasia.news –  Prior to Manchester City in 2016, Ilkay Gundogan turned out to have almost joined Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund.

Gundogan is currently working with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and the two has had a pretty good relationship even though the German midfielder has sometimes been reserved due to intense competition in the midfield of the team. Guardiola apparently has been monitoring Gundogan’s talent for a long time, and almost brought him in when he was still the main coach of Bayern Munich.

Gundogan revealed that he underwent negotiations to join Bayern at the end of the 2012/13 season, after Dortmund were beaten 2-1 in the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium, England. Despite failing to join Bayern, Gundogan did not regret the moment and said that he was still glad with the current situation.

“I can say that at this time, previously there were several negotiating processes with Bayern Munich. But a number of reasons has made the move impossible. Now I am very happy with Manchester City. “I don’t think there is a better club for me at the moment, and I also feel that no coach can be considered better than Pep Guardiola,” Ilkay Gundogan stated in an interview reported by Goal.

A long injury period had made Gundogan lost a lot of time with Man City in 2016. Gundogan only returned to appear in September 2017, and became one of the players who played an important role when Man City won the Premier League title in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons.
