In Two Different Competitions, Liverpool will Break into Two Teams
By db-admin
DBasia.news – To compete in two different events namely the English League Cup and the Club World Cup, Liverpool announced it would divide the team into two squads in both events.
This was announced by the club after the EFL, as the organizer of the English League Cup, decided to shift the schedule of quarter-final matches against Aston Villa to 17 December 2019 or just a day before Liverpool underwent the Club World Cup semifinals in Qatar.
“The club wants to take this opportunity to emphasize that this is not an ideal scenario, this is the result obtained by considering the goodness of the competition, the participating clubs and ourselves,” Liverpool wrote on their official website Tuesday night.
However, Liverpool also said there had been discussions about alternative date options for the English League Cup quarter-final match, but there was no common ground for all parties involved.
The EFL decision to keep holding the English League Cup quarterfinals in the same week as the Club World Cup event is an irony, given Liverpool won the right to appear in both competitions is not the easy way.
So far, Liverpool has featured many young and second-tier players in their first two matches in the English League Cup.
The EFL’s decision may also eliminate Liverpool’s chances of advancing, given they are required to divide their squad into two competitions at once.
Liverpool reached the quarter-finals by eliminating MK Dons in the third round and Arsenal in the fourth round.
