By news-admin
DBasia.news – Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola thought John Stones could be the defensive midfielder. Guardiola believed, Stones will be one of the key players of The Citizens in the 2018-2019 season.
Pep Guardiola tried to deploy Stones as the defensive midfielder during the Community Shield final round versus Chelsea in Wembley Stadium, Sunday (5/8). At that time, the former Everton player performed as the midfielder after Vincent Kompany joined the pitch.
The experiment went as planned. Stones gave defensive power as the midfielder.
“John made an excellent World Cup and showed again his personality,” Pep Guardiola said reported by Soccerway.
“I was happy to see him in the last 10 or 15 minutes like a holding midfielder. John maybe can play there,” he explained.
“We will see what’s going on in the future. In the Premier League, there are a huge amount of games and everybody will be involved,” the former Barcelona coach insisted.
Besides midfielder, Stones also has the ability to play as the right-back. This strength made Stones could play since the beginning of the match.
“John (Stones) has to know he has to play at a good level because Vincent and Nico are there, and they are going to play. Then, they have to play good. In the higher teams in the top tier, when they play in all competitions, you need this kind of competition,” Guardiola said.
