Jonathan Hector Wonder Why Man United Aim Maguire, Not De Ligt

DBasia.news –  Jonathan Hector, a former Manchester United defender, did not understand with United’s management decision that was too focused on targeting Harry Maguire, Leicester City defender. United, according to him, should target Matthijs de Ligt.

In contrast to the £ 80 million price tag given by Leicester to Maguire – and most likely United accepted the transfer priority, Juventus bought De Ligt for £ 67.5 million from Ajax Amsterdam.

Logically, if Man United can spend that much money to recruit Maguire, then they should have no problem bringing De Ligt. Besides being younger, De Ligt has demonstrated his quality in Europe and international level.

Spector thinks there are still many defenders who are better than Maguire and can be bought cheaper. Nevertheless, the former United player in the 2003-2006 period continued to assess Maguire as a quality player.

“I am honestly a little surprised by (United’s approach to Maguire). I think he is a very good central defender and has proven it on an international level, but, part of me I think they should be looking for players abroad,” Spector said to Goal.

“I think they should potentially pursue other players like De Ligt, but, Maguire is a good player and I think he could be a good addition to the club, but only at the right price.”

“It seems that players from England have instructed a premium and if they get it at the right price, I think it will be a good recruit,” said Spector.
