DBasia.news – Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, salutes and is proud of his players for being able to keep a record of being undefeated in the Premier League for a year. Their newest win over Sheffield United.
Playing at Anfield in Week 21 of the Premier League, Friday (03/01) AM, Liverpool won 2-0 through goals scored by Mohamed Salah (4 ‘) and Sadio Mane (64’).
Liverpool, with one match postponed, are now in first place with 58 points and 13 points adrift of Leicester City in second place, and 14 points with Manchester City in third place.
The result also ensured Liverpool to go through 37 straight matches without defeat in the Premier League. There are only two teams that have a better record above them, namely Arsenal (49 matches) and Chelsea (40 matches).
Which means Liverpool have gone through one year without defeat. Liverpool last lost on January 3, 2019 against Premier League champions, Manchester City. But Jurgen Klopp is humbled and assessed his team’s focus on winning, not breaking a record of never losing in matches.
“It (a record of never losing) is great, but we don’t think about a year (never lost). We think about winning this fight, that’s the target,” Klopp said as quoted by the Guardian.
“The players are 100 percent focused; that’s important. In all of these positions it’s also great. Our new year starts in mid-May – so we undergo season resolution, not year resolution.”
After playing against Sheffield, Liverpool will play the Merseyside Derby against Everton at Anfield in the FA Cup third round, Sunday (05/01) at 23.01 WIB.
Klopp indicated that he would rotate his squad against the direction of Carlo Ancelotti’s team. Klopp admitted his players were exhausted and had many injuries due to a busy schedule this season.
“Some of our players are exhausted and are also injured, plus we have just played a challenging game. I will do what I think is best, but I will not tell Carlo Ancelotti the composition of the players later,” concluded Klopp.
