DBasia.news – Arsenal became the first team to tarnish Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s smooth record in the Premier League. Arsenal won 2-0 against Manchester United in Week 30 of the Premier League on Sunday (10/3) night Western Indonesian Time.
The Gunner’s two goals were scored by Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s penalty. Man United’s performance showed anti-climax following a dramatic 3-1 victory in Paris over PSG (Paris Saint-Germain) in the Champions League.
Solskjaer admitted that his foster children started the match very slowly against Unai Emery’s landing team. He analyzed this as the effect of the dramatic victory over PSG in Paris.
“We started (the game) slowly, perhaps as an effect on Wednesday night (against PSG), but we created opportunities and when they scored the first goal, the match was different,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.
“We created so many opportunities for this emotion rather than when we beat them in the FA Cup. Sometimes this happened, our two chances were against the crossbar and we also had five very big opportunities.”
Despite losing, the Red Devils are still fighting for a place in the Champions League zone. Man United are two points adrift of Arsenal who is now in the fourth position in the standings, plus three points from Tottenham Hotspur ranked third in the standings.
“I think there is no tension about it (Champions League zone battle), but the Spurs lost last Saturday (1-2 from Southampton), we lost and Chelsea drew. So the competition will be even more exciting, depending on the last few matches,” explained Solskjaer.
“We have given ourselves a great opportunity. Our position is in the right position,” said the Norwegian manager.
In the next game, Man United will visit the headquarters of Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday (17/3) at 02.55 early morning hrs. The international break will take place afterward. Man United will only be back against Watford in Week 31 of the Premier League on 30 March 2019.
