Louis van Gaal Reveals Reasons for Failure to Bring Star Players to Manchester United

By db-admin

DBasia.news – Manchester United will almost certainly fail to bring in Jadon Sancho in the transfer market this summer. This adds to the long list of star players who have failed to bring in to Old Trafford.

In every transfer market, Manchester United are often linked with a number of star players. But in the recent years, The Red Devils have received more frequent rejection or being overtaken by other clubs.

This fact did not surprise Louis Van Gaal. The man who served as United manager from 2014 to 2016 had experienced this firsthand.

Van Gaal said he had targeted a number of stars since being appointed to handle Manchester United. However, none of them were found.

“I wanted Robert Lewandowski, but it proved difficult. Then I tried to get Gonzalo Higuain instead,” Van Gaal said in an interview with FourFourTwo.

“Before arriving, I also spoke to top club officials about Neymar. He is also attractive to the club in terms of shirt sales, and I want to have a fast winger.”

Lewandowski and Neymar are not the last stars Van Gaal has tried to sign. He also includes names such as Sadio Mane, Riyad Mahrez, Thomas Muller, N’Golo Kante, James Milner, Sergio Ramos, and Matt Hummels on the wanted list.

“They are my main target, but we couldn’t get any of them. I don’t know why,” he added.

Interestingly, Van Gaal admitted that he was not involved in the negotiations to get these star players. All responsibility is left to Ed Woodward as CEO and transfer manager of Manchester United.

Indirectly, Van Gaal insinuated Woodward’s performance. He couldn’t stop thinking that a club as big as Manchester United could not attract star players.

“As a manager, I was not involved in any negotiations. After I left, players like (Riyad) Mahrez and (N’Golo) Kanté ended up at Manchester City and Chelsea, while United could not get it, it was very strange,” he concluded.
