Luka Modric Extends his Contract with Real Madrid
By db-admin
DBasia.news – Luka Modric is relieved by the end result of the discussion process regarding a contract extension with Real Madrid. Modric’s contract with Madrid expires in June 2021 and is likely to be extended for one year.
In fact, Modric’s contract expired in the summer of 2020. However, his achievement of winning the Ballon d’Or has made his contract automatically be add to one more year to 2021.
At the age of 35, Modric admits that he still wants to defend Real Madrid. Because of this, Modric is likely to accept an offer from Madrid despite experiencing a pay cut, due to the club’s financial situation.
From Real Madrid’s side, the decision to add to Modric’s tenure was inseparable from his role as a mentor for the young Los Blancos midfielder, especially Martin Odegaard. And, it seems that Modric, who is indeed close to Odegaard, is already playing this role.
Modric challenged Odegaard to take a chance and prove that he deserves a place in Real Madrid’s first team.
Odegaard was impressive while on loan at Real Sociedad last season, but has struggled to find regular playing time since returning to the Bernabeu. The injury also interfered with his momentum.
In Madrid’s last five LaLiga matches, Odegaard has only played from the bench. The 22 year old player only played for five minutes against Celta Vigo.
Madrid will only return to play in LaLiga on January 23, with the Spanish Supercopa semi-final against Athletic Bilbao on Friday (15/1).
Odegaard is one of the players who are expected to get a start and Modric said he should take this opportunity.
“I like Odegaard as a player and as a person. The advice I can give him is to keep working and fighting for his place in the team,” said Modric, as quoted by Goal.
“When he gets the chance to play, he has to show the reasons why he is here, make a difference and help the team.”
“Here when you’re going to play, you have to give your best, look your best, and nothing else,” added Modric.
