Manchester United legend highlights the fate of Sancho and Van De Beek in the team

DBasia.news – Manchester United showed a positive response after being defeated by Liverpool with a score of 0-5 at Old Trafford. Playing at the headquarters of Tottenham Hotspur, Saturday (30/10) night WIB, the Red Devils won with a score of 3-0.

Three of United’s goals came from Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford. The win temporarily eased the pressure on United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

However, behind the victory there was another thing that caught the attention of Man United legend, Gary Neville. He was actually sympathetic to two United players who was rarely played by Solskjaer, namely Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek.

Sancho was purchased for 73 million pounds from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021, while Van de Beek is even worse. Since being recruited from Ajax Amsterdam in 2020, Solskjaer has promised playing time, but he still rarely plays.

Neville regretted that fact. The reason is that Sancho and Van de Beek have been impressive with their former clubs, but when they came to United they both became bench warmers.

“I can’t help but think of Van de Beek. Who put their name on it? Who sponsored him at Manchester United, 40 million pounds spent on a kid sitting in the stands and not kicking a ball for almost 18 months?

“Sancho, if he’s not careful, will end up exactly the same. He’s played in some pretty bad performances in the last few (weeks) not him, I mean team performances.”

“He came to a club that looked completely separate in terms of their football. He played in a much better team and unit at Dortmund. He came here and probably thought, ‘What the hell am I doing here? What is this?’ No organization, no structure, poor defensive work rate.”

“He’s actually the only player, when you look at the defensive stats of Manchester United’s forwards, is almost close. I think he’s fifth or sixth out of the club’s top four forwards, he’s in the top 10. So he really made a change.”

“But he had to sit on that bench today thinking, ‘What did I do?’, now he’s thinking, ‘Where do I play in that system?’.”

“Because I didn’t see him in the midfield and I didn’t see him in the two up front, so he was probably thinking, ‘Where’s my career at Manchester United?’.”

“And Van de Beek thought the same. Today was a good day, but it caused problems elsewhere,” concluded Neville.

Sancho has made 11 appearances in all competitions with United this season, but started in only six. The 21-year-old player has yet to score or provide an assist.
